ISLAMABAD: North Atlantic Treaty Organization Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has said that Pakistan’s positive role was imperative for regional peace and stability, Radio Pakistan reported on Tuesday.
During his meeting with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Brussels, he appreciated Pakistan’s crucial role in the Afghan peace process.
He said that the NATO wanted to work with Pakistan on bilateral understanding. Qureshi said that there were similarities in their work for regional peace.
The two leaders talked at length on the security issues concerning Pakistan and the Western alliance with special reference to Afghanistan and Kashmir.
Qureshi said the talks were important for the Pakistan-NATO understanding and relationship.
Earlier, Qureshi said that Pakistan has been cooperating with NATO and “we extended unprecedented help to US and NATO forces in matters pertaining to Afghanistan.”
“We have played a key role in the war against terrorism and NATO has acknowledged that fact,” he had said before leaving for Brussels on a two-day official visit.
He said that “we believe that our relationship with NATO in defence and security matters should continue.”
