ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged the people to get their undeclared assets validated under the amnesty scheme before the June 30th deadline to avoid being in trouble.
Talking to a private TV channel, he warned that the government will have no option but to go after tax evaders if they fail to benefit from the scheme, Radio Pakistan reported on Tuesday.
The prime minister said that the nation and the government can work together to make the scheme a success.
He said that the country stands at the crossroads and everyone will have to play its role for the improvement of the national economy.
Khan said that the country cannot move forward unless taxes were collected and steps were being taken to increase the revenue and reduce loans. He said that the government was implementing the austerity drive to bring down the expenditures at the national level.
The prime minister said that the economy of the country was facing a critical situation “where half of our income goes to pay interest on loans. He said that corruption was the main cause of economic malaise. The prime minister assured that the people who come into the tax net will not be harassed. He said that efforts were afoot to bring real reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue.
Khan said that consultations were being held with the business community on a regular basis and they will be taken on board while formulating policies.
The prime minister reiterated that tax money will be utilized for the welfare of people.
