KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday accepted a bail plea of former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon in the Rs5.76 billion advertisement scam and issued his release orders.
The high court, however, ordered to put Memon’s name on the exit control list and also asked him to surrender/submit Rs0.5 million as surety as an investigation against him is underway.
Memon who has been in jail since 2017 after he was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau, has been accused of corruption in the award of advertisements to electronic media for Sindh government’s public awareness campaigns.
Media reports quoting the NAB reference said that between July 2013 and June 2015, an amount of Rs5.76 billion was paid to seven advertisement agencies.
According to the NAB reference, Memon illegally approved the release of official advertisements to the electronic media through so-called, pre-qualified advertising agencies without completing the due process.
