ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court spokesperson said on Friday that acting Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Amir Farooq has written to the law ministry recommending that accountability court judge Judge Arshad Malik be removed from his post.
Earlier on Thursday, Judge Arshad Malik met with Justice Amir Farooq for the third time in one week amid the leaked video controversy.
The controversy surrounding Judge Arshad Malik came to the limelight after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz relayed a video clip alleging that “Judge Malik told a Nawaz Sharif supporter, Nasir Butt, that he was pressured and blackmailed to give a verdict against the former prime minister in the Al-Azizia reference.”
Though the judge denied the allegations saying it had been pieced together, he did not deny his meeting with Butt and the discussions he had with him about the verdict against Sharif.
Earlier, Justice Farooq held a meeting with Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and consultations among top judges over the alleged video continued on Thursday.
While speaking to the media, the law minister said, the judiciary could look into the matter under the law.
The Supreme Court was moved to launch an inquiry into the video scandal on July 11.
