LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday called on the judiciary to provide justice to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif after it was ‘proved’ that the judge had handed him sentence under pressure.
Talking to reporters in Lahore, former petroleum minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that it was a test for judiciary now to provide justice to Nawaz Sharif as it was proven that Judge Arshad Malik was coerced through pressure and blackmailing into handing sentence to Sharif.
“This is just one judge who has been caught succumbing to pressure,” he said, adding, “God knows how many more judges are being blackmailed.”
Khaqan strongly criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan for using his influence to pressure courts into giving false verdicts, saying that any external influence on judicial proceedings can have disastrous outcomes.
Answering a question on former law minister Rana Sanaullah’s arrest, Abbasi said that his case, too, was false and concocted, adding that he was arrested only to silence a strong opposition.
“Why didn’t the ANF [Anti-Narcotics Force] get his physical remand for investigation if they claim that he was running an international drug-trafficking racket?” he questioned.
